Otodynamics Ltd - Background
Otodynamics is a British owned and managed company, controlled by the discoverer of otoacoustic emissions, Professor David Kemp. It benefits from his continuing active academic involvement with hearing research and the engineering and scientific knowledge of members of his original research team.

Otodynamics was created in 1988 to provide Otoacoustic Emission (OAE) instruments for research and audiological applications. The academic staff of the Institute of Laryngology & Otology in London supported the formation of the company because at the time none of the main hearing test manufacturers in Europe and America believed that OAEs were important. Otodynamics' products are named after the Institute of Laryngology & Otology (ILO).

We treat it as a compliment that most other audiological manufacturers are now convinced that OAEs are essential in audiology. During the lifetime of the patents we had licence agreements with companies operating in the USA and Europe.

Being a successful, privately owned Company, Otodynamics can continue to support research and invest in new instruments. The company supports academic research projects with equipment and resources both in the UK and overseas. Otodynamics also participates in major programmes to establish norms and standards for OAE equipment.

Otodynamics' products were used in the three largest hearing screening evaluation projects - Rhode Island Hearing Assessment Project (USA), US NIDCD Multi-Center Trial of Newborn Hearing Technology (USA) and the Wessex Hearing Assessment Project (UK) and are in use in the UK's longest running screening programme at Whipps Cross Hospital, London.

For more than 13 years, Otodynamics has led the field in quality OAE instrumentation. Otodynamics launched the first commercially successful OAE system in 1988 - the ILO88; the first DP+TEOAE system - the ILO92; the first battery portable system - the Echoport; the first standalone OAE screeners - Echosensor and ECHOPORTplus; the first pocket-sized OAE screener - the ECHOCHECK; and the first OAE system capable of performing both contralateral suppression and 3-tone DPOAE measurements.

Otodynamics has supplied more than 8,000 OAE instruments to hospitals and laboratories in more than 70 countries and our products are believed to comprise more than 70 percent of all OAE equipment in use in the world today.

We attend exhibitions, conferences and meetings in the UK, US and Europe and support our distributors in their efforts to promote our products in countries where we are unable to participate personally.
